Promoted Without a Raise? The Feeling of Increased Responsibilities and Stagnant Salary 🥲
Hello everyone at work! I recently received a promotion notice from my company. I thought it would be something to celebrate, but then I looked at my payslip and realized... my salary 'hasn't changed at all'! Although the job title sounds more impressive, it's come with more responsibilities, endless meetings, and projects to manage. This kind of 'nominal promotion' really makes my feelings super complicated; I don't know whether to be happy or just resigned. My friends all advised me to just endure it and build my resume, but seeing my workload double while my wallet stays the same makes me feel tired. Have any of you experienced this 'more work, no more pay' situation? Would you choose to use it as a stepping stone and hang in there, or start secretly updating your resume and prepare to switch paths? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

You should ask the company why your salary didn't increase. It's important to find out the reason!

I've had a similar experience, though mine was a bit better than yours. I was promoted to team lead in name only, getting an extra 1000 yuan for the position. However, it came with countless tasks and responsibilities, and even jealousy and difficulties from senior colleagues who were more experienced than me.

Normally, they add a subsidy, but whether it meets expectations is another story...

Change it and then talk to your supervisor.

Getting promoted without a raise, and then having your responsibilities increase, really makes you feel some type of way! 😌

Sometimes it depends on the nature of the work! Getting promoted just makes your job title look nicer on your business card.

Got a promotion but no raise… just more responsibilities. What kind of trash company is this…

My suggestion is to keep doing it for now while also actively looking for other jobs that suit you better, and then quit once you find one!
