Behind the Glitz
I went to Korea with my family a while back. There were so many places to shop and see. But depending on the age group of the places we visited, the people we encountered were quite different. When I took the subway to Dongdaemun, it was packed with elderly people. But in Sinsa-dong, it was full of trendy young people. However, the most shocking sight was at a Seoul subway station. There, I saw a huge number of homeless people gathered in one corner, building makeshift shelters with cardboard boxes. Visually, there must have been around a hundred of them. It made me feel like this was a place with the greatest wealth disparity. Perhaps the prosperity is just on the surface, and behind it lie many impoverished people who need more care.

Thanks for sharing. There are also many homeless people at Wanhua Longshan Temple and Taipei Main Station.

Actually, competition in Korea is incredibly fierce. I saw a report a while back saying South Korea had the highest suicide rate in Asia. I wonder if it's gotten any better since then.

AuthorI feel like the suicide rate is still high, as there are issues with bullying in addition to competition.
