I was so angry yesterday, I really couldn't communicate with the old lady at home. Here's our conversation: Mother-in-law: When is the Earth God's birthday? When should we offer sacrifices? Me: Lunar August 14th, after 11 AM. Mother-in-law: Who offers sacrifices at night? We always do it in the morning. Me: Isn't it okay to offer sacrifices after 11 AM? We also have to offer mooncakes and fruits the next morning. Mother-in-law: (She started getting unhappy) Go ask your dad when to offer sacrifices, or ask someone else how they do it. Me: We don't offer that many sacrifices at our house. (Inner thought: Not as many as you country folks.) Mother-in-law: She said only the Three Realms God is offered sacrifices early. (I guess many people don't know about the Three Realms God.) Every family has a different way of offering sacrifices. Asking others won't necessarily give you the same answer. Why can't I offer them early if I want to? And she told me to ask others. So bossy. Offering sacrifices is up to the individual, the intention is what matters most. She said she can't communicate with me, but I think talking to you is more tiring. Old-fashioned, country bumpkin. So traditional. How many times a year do you offer sacrifices? You believe so much in gods and buddhas, I don't think you have any compassion. Your mouth is so nasty, you never say anything good. I can't be bothered to talk to you anymore.

Listening to your story, I can really feel that helplessness and grievance. It must have been tough to face such a clash of perspectives. Please remember to take a deep breath and don't let someone else's stubbornness drain your energy.

Honestly, I'm not an atheist. But I believe gods have great love and empathy for people. Things like those noisy temple festivals (?), setting off firecrackers at 3 AM, hiring those flashy electronic bands, and having scantily clad girls on jeeps~ Is that really what gods want?? Don't use the gods to do what you want.

I just threw everything up there to the guys above because I can't do it either 😂 But I know some people start preparing the day before, light incense after 11 PM, and then prepare things like the three sacrifices the next morning 🤔🤔

You rush to wish your best friends a happy birthday right after midnight, so there's no reason you can't immediately wish the Earth God a happy birthday (for prayers) once the midnight hour passes.

I feel the same....... My mother-in-law is pretty much the same. I think to myself, why do we daughters-in-law have to do everything ourselves? We don't get any of the good stuff, but we have to do all the work. What's the deal........

Sticking to pointless traditions without realizing sincerity is what matters. It's just going through the motions for the sake of it, while everyday life is completely different. They've got it all backward.

Whether you worship or not is personal freedom. People with poor speech, thoughts, and actions are useless no matter what they pray for. If you're making rules for worship, just follow them yourselves! It's just self-consolation, and you're trying to guilt-trip others with it.
