Chapter 5: The Kingdom of Delays in the Tunnel As the train plunged into the tunnel, the darkness outside the window suddenly became a darkness with substance. Then, the lights came on. It wasn't the tunnel's lights. It was an endless warehouse. Filled with things. To the left, a mountain of socks, all single, unable to find their mates, stacked to the ceiling. To the right, a forest of umbrellas, thousands upon thousands of them stuck in the ground, some still dripping water. Beyond that, rows and rows of boarding passes, stamped with 'Canceled.' In the deepest part, an entire wall of glass jars, each filled with an unspoken apology, flitting about like fireflies. And a prairie made of sticky notes. Each one read: 'Next time for sure.'
