The two suns took turns appearing, leaving the earth in perpetual heat. Rivers dried up, plants withered, and it was difficult for animals and people to survive. The tribe decided to shoot down one of the suns. So, a warrior and his child embarked on a long journey. They chased the sun, crossing mountains and forests, traveling for a very long time. Along the way, the child gradually grew, while the warrior slowly aged. Finally, they reached the place where the sun rose. The warrior drew his bow and shot an arrow at one of the suns. The arrow hit the sun. The wounded sun lost its light and eventually became the moon. From then on, only one sun remained in the sky, and the days were no longer so hot; at night, the moon illuminated the earth. However, the Bunun legend does not view this event merely as a hero conquering the sun. It also remembers a long journey—the previous generation did not reach the end, but the next generation took over their mission. So, perhaps the truly moving part of 'Shooting the Sun' is not the arrow that hit the sun, but the journey that spanned generations.
