On This Day: October 6

On October 6, 1973, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, in alliance with Syria, launched the Yom Kippur War (the Fourth Arab-Israeli War). He ordered his troops to cross the Suez Canal and attack Israeli defenses. While Israel was initially caught off guard, they eventually turned the tide of the war. The war had a significant impact on several countries. It marked the first time Arab nations openly engaged in dialogue with Israel, ultimately influencing the signing of a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt.
