Admin vs Admin

The character '板' (bǎn) is in the wood radical category. But for '版' (bǎn) chủ (admin/moderator), most people use the metal radical (片). (I'm not actually sure if that's correct though). But it feels weird like this, Sometimes it's 'board' and sometimes it's 'admin'. So now I use the wood radical '板' for admin. Meaning 'the person who manages the board'. And I specifically looked it up later. To see which of these two characters is correct. The answer is both are acceptable, but the original character is '板'. So personally, I'm now used to using '板'. Although I still sometimes type '版主' unconsciously lol. Link to the Ministry of Education dictionary: https://dict.revised.moe.edu.tw/dictView.jsp?ID=16615&la=0&powerMode=0

Personally, I'm used to using the board's text format. It's good that neither is wrong though 😅

I didn't notice the event said '판' (board/panel), but I wrote '판' (board/panel) because it's called '간판' (signboard/bulletin board) 😆

First time discovering this issue! It reminds me of the difference between '습(濕)' and '습(濕)', is it like the difference between a noun and a verb?

Sometimes, as you type certain words, they just become common usage.

Even the Ministry of Education's dictionary isn't absolutely correct; they even had a proofreading event before, and there were typos like the one in the attached picture. My personal take is that whether you use '板' (bǎn - board) or '版' (bǎn - edition/version) depends on whether the user envisions the forum as a physical 'board' or a flat 'page/surface'. Things like '看板' (kànbǎn - bulletin board), '留言板' (liúyánbǎn - message board), '告示板' (gàoshìbǎn - notice board) were originally physical 'boards' displaying information; whereas '社会版' (shèhuìbǎn - social section) or '生活版' (shēnghuóbǎn - lifestyle section) in newspapers and magazines refer to a 'page/surface'. The character '版' originally meant a wooden tablet, and only later, with the advent of printing, came to refer to printing blocks. So, usages related to printing can be interchangeable with '板'. However, even though they can be interchangeable, for words like '版面' (bǎnmiàn - layout/page) and '版本' (bǎnběn - version), people now mostly choose to use '版' and rarely use '板'. I personally imagine it as a board, so I'm used to using '板'. Plus, the official term is also '看板' (kànbǎn), so I naturally use '板'.

I think I used to wonder about this too, but in the end, the meaning of words is for communication. Some typos become common through frequent use for convenience, and as long as they aren't so egregious that people can't understand the meaning, it's fine!
