Not Enough to Just Reduce Phone Use! 12 Daily Habits for Eye Health
When eyes get tired, many people's first reaction is to reduce phone usage. However, simply cutting back isn't enough; the key is to do it the right way and consistently. 🔴20-20-20 Rule: After looking at a screen for 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet (about 6 meters) away for 20 seconds. Set an alarm. 🔵Eyeball 'Eight' Exercise: Sit up straight with your head still. Move your eyeballs up, down, left, right, and diagonally. Stop when you feel a slight strain. Do one round in the morning and one in the evening. 🔴Focusing with Closed Eyes: Close your eyes and imagine a distant mountain for 5 seconds, then imagine your nose tip or eyelashes for 5 seconds. Repeat this 15 times. 🔵Gentle Sunbathing: In the morning or late afternoon, close your eyes and face the sun for 3 minutes. Do not look directly at it. 🔴Warm Compress Relaxation: Apply a warm compress (around 40°C or 104°F) for 10 minutes. Use your thumbs to gently massage along the eye sockets towards your temples. 🔵Resetting Eyeballs Before Sleep: Lie down with your eyes closed and gently look down with your eyeballs for 5 minutes. 🔴Eye-Healthy Diet: Consume lutein (spinach + oil), anthocyanins (blueberries, black goji berries), and Vitamin A (steamed carrots + olive oil) at least once daily. 🔵1-Meter Distance + Lower Screen: Hold your phone at arm's length (about one forearm's length) and your computer at arm's length plus a fist. Position the screen center 10-15 cm below eye level. 🔴Two Things to Avoid at Night: Don't turn on overhead lights or increase screen brightness. Use a small, warm-toned desk lamp with brightness set to 40% or less. 🔵Alternating Far and Near Focus: Look at your fingerprint for 5 seconds, then look at the farthest point outside the window for 5 seconds. Repeat this 10 times, doing 3 sets in the morning, afternoon, and evening. 🔴Gaze at Blurred Edges: Remove your glasses and gaze at the blurry edges of distant trees or buildings for 5 minutes. 🔵Outdoor Time Twice a Week: Spend at least 2 hours outdoors each time, looking at moving objects. It's okay even on cloudy days. For comfortable eyes, it's crucial to reset your eye usage rhythm daily. If you notice significant vision changes, discomfort from eye pressure, frequent blurriness, headaches, or eye pain, please consult a doctor for an examination.
