Apple's First Touch OLED MacBook Pro Expected This Month: Understand All Key Upgrades at a Glance

Release Time: As early as the end of October, November is also possible. In his latest "Power On" newsletter, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman indicated that Apple might launch its first MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen in October or November 2026, covering both 14-inch and 16-inch models. Gurman stated that Apple is currently testing with macOS 27.2 Beta internally, and the official version is expected to be released by the end of October, possibly with a simultaneous unveiling. However, he also emphasized that the release date could still be postponed to November. Redesigned Exterior: The Biggest Overhaul Since 2021 This will be the most significant redesign of the MacBook Pro's exterior since 2021. According to Gurman, Apple has redesigned the internal structure of the MacBook Pro, making the new models noticeably thinner and lighter through component miniaturization and reconfiguration. For reference, the current 16-inch MacBook Pro weighs about 2.18 kg, and the 14-inch weighs about 1.60 to 1.62 kg. The weight reduction in the new models is worth looking forward to. The new MacBook Pro will feature OLED display technology for the first time in the Mac lineup, replacing the current mini-LED panels. Reports suggest Apple may adopt Tandem OLED panels, similar to those in the iPad Pro, utilizing a stacked structure to enhance color, contrast, and brightness. The pixel-level independent light control of OLED will deliver purer blacks and more vibrant colors. Along with the display upgrade, this will also be Apple's first Mac computer to support touch input. Multiple touch-related codes and animations have already been discovered in macOS 27.2 Beta 3, including touch standby gestures in the Photos app, touch press detection in Notes, and touch drag support in Safari and Quick Look. Core Upgrade 2: M6 Series Chip, First to Use 2nm Process In terms of performance, multiple sources indicate the new models will be equipped with the M6 series processors (M6 Pro / Max) manufactured using TSMC's 2nm process. Thanks to the GAA architecture and advanced packaging technologies, the M6 chip is expected to see an approximate 18% performance increase at the same power consumption and a roughly 36% reduction in power consumption at the same frequency compared to the M5. The base M6 model is anticipated to feature a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, along with a dual 16-core Neural Engine, boosting peak AI computing power up to twice that of the M5.
