🐦 Bird of the Day｜White-rumped Munia

The White-rumped Munia is a common resident bird in Taiwan, about 11 cm long, often found in grasslands, farmlands, cultivated land, and forest edges on plains. Its body is mainly dark brown, with a distinct white area on its rump, a grayish-white belly, and a black, pointed tail; males and females look similar. They primarily eat plant seeds such as grass seeds and grains, and are often seen foraging with their heads down on the ground or in grassy areas. They are often seen in pairs during spring and summer, and form small flocks in autumn and winter, sometimes appearing in groups of dozens when food is abundant. 🌿 Fun Fact White-rumped Munias are also called 'Sharp-tailed Munias'. Their white rump is particularly visible when they fly or hop, serving as an important clue for identification. They also enjoy flocking and occasionally forage for seeds on the grass with other munias.
