The Story of the Saiunkoku

Sae Yukino's "The Story of the Saiunkoku" A shojo light novel series that was also adapted into an anime, but it has not been digitized. The author's policy seems to be not to digitize it, as they want to support the publishing industry, including printing companies. It started and concluded with Kadokawa Beans Bunko, and now a new edition is published by Kadokawa Bunko. It's a novel I love for its charming characters and world-building, which incorporates literary elements throughout. For example, there's a setting where the king bestows flowers with heartfelt meaning upon his trusted retainers. Thinking about the flower's language, its alternative names, and the retainer's personality to choose the gift... I was thrilled at the time by such an elegant and interesting concept... The author seems to like flowers, as they often give them symbolic meanings. Names are taken from Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin, and I personally liked that, so I was completely hooked. I wonder if it was popular in China too. A long time ago, a girl I met at work was humming the anime theme song "Hajimari no Kaze" from The Story of the Saiunkoku. I also remember writing the character names on a whiteboard. This novel holds many fond memories, as it led me to make several friends. It was the inspiration for me to aspire to become a novelist, and it's also why I came to love the alternative names for flowers, stars, and jewels, among other things.

Things I bought recently that caught my eye

Folklore is pretty fascinating, right? It seems like it could be useful for creative work too, so I'll gradually get into it when I have time.

One-Line Ghost Stories

Yuki Yoshida's "One-Line Ghost Stories" A book with a unique format that captivates horror fans, so much so that parodies are created on social media and in secondary creations. No title. Only one period per sentence. It's a story, not a poem. It's close to a ghost story within the realm of stories. A continuous sentence based on the above. These one-line ghost stories, spun with strict adherence to these rules, possess an unparalleled captivating quality. For example, there's a story like this: "When she saw only rice grains trickle out from her wrist, cut by a cutter, she finally understood why her parents didn't love her." It's a short story that conveys a certain worldview, leaving room for imagination precisely because it doesn't say much. The writing, crafted in this manner, is pleasant and reads with a hypnotic rhythm, making you want to keep turning the pages. I don't read novels much. I find long texts difficult to read. I like scary novels. I want to discover a new kind of book with a unique format. This is a book I'd recommend to people like that.

It Appears in the Form of Lost Things

Hello everyone! Sorry if my clumsy writing makes it hard to read 🙇 What I want to introduce is the "Lost Item Administration Bureau". Actually, this is an artbook in the style of a fictional game's strategy guide, with almost no text like a novel or light novel. The content is: In a certain provincial city, strange phenomena caused by 'lost items' occur frequently. The protagonist is dispatched by the Bureau to investigate and uncover the city's truth. It's something like that! Seeing the fragmented descriptions makes you think, 'Will we ever go to this facility in a quest?' or 'Is this person explaining things perhaps... that girl?', and it's a really interesting book that makes you speculate about various things! Like a strategy guide, it also includes maps, character descriptions, enemy strategies, items, and more. And the frustration of wanting to play this work (game) but being unable to because it's fictional... I wondered if introducing an artbook first was a bit odd, but I introduced it because it was the first book that came to mind. I hope it gets made into a real game someday.

The God's Errand Runner

Even Gods have worries── This is a modern Japanese fantasy novel by Natsu Asaba. It falls into the categories of light novels or new adult fiction, perhaps? It's a series of interconnected short stories about Yoshihiko, an ordinary, kind-hearted young man who gets chosen as an "errand runner" for the gods, listening to and solving their problems. (Occasionally, there are longer stories too). It's heartwarming and gentle, so much so that just reading it is healing. I'd recommend it to anyone tired from modern life. The gods' kindness, deep affection, and compassion towards humans. The humans' reverence, faith, and love for the gods. These sentiments are gently conveyed throughout the work. That's the kind of story it is.

A Book I'm Eagerly Awaiting the Sequel For

"Did the Boy See the Ultramarine Wind That Day?" by Mieko Sakai (Hakusensha, July 25, 1996, 1st Edition) Great phantom thief Lupin and boy detective Holmes. They cause a ruckus in town every night with their chase... But actually, they're high school classmates and roommates?? Serialized in "Bessatsu Hana to Yume" It's irregularly serialized, so I might have missed some chapters. Unsure how many episodes are uncollected... I think there were 4. According to reviews, there seems to be about one volume's worth of content... I regret not buying the magazine because I thought the second comic volume would be released. I own two first editions of volume 1, one for myself and one to spread the word 😸 On a website called "Fukkan.com", they accept votes for reprint requests. I fervently hope for a reprint and the uncollected chapters! 📣

Nice to meet you, excuse me for intruding🙇

This is my first time in a group like this, so I apologize if I make any mistakes. I'm not very good at conversations or explanations... I got hooked on "Kanata Kara" by Kyouko Hikawa, which a classmate taught me about back in vocational school, and I collected all the volumes from used bookstores. It's an isekai story with elements of horror? grudges? It also has romance, battles, and unique characters, I think. Besides the isekai genre of "Kanata Kara," she also has Western, Heian period, and modern settings. If you're interested, I'd be happy if you could take a quick look(_ _)

Nice to meet you! 📖

One of my favorite works is "Another" by Yukito Ayatsuji. It's a school horror mystery that has been adapted into a novel, manga, and movie. One of the interesting aspects is that the endings differ in each adaptation. The creeping dread and mystery, followed by the furious unfolding of events in the latter half, make it impossible to put down.
