Nice to Meet You ~ "The Guardian Spirit"

Nice to meet you. I found this wonderful bulletin board and wanted to join. I love books, of course. So, I'd like to introduce my favorite book right away. It's "The Guardian Spirit" (Seirei no Moribito). This is a high fantasy novel written by Nahoko Uehashi, who is also a cultural anthropologist. Although it was written and published as children's literature, the world-building, character depiction, and story are so rich that adults can fully enjoy it. It's part of the "Moribito Series," which consists of 10 main volumes and a total of 13 volumes including short stories and side stories, totaling 5,000 pages. The illustrations were done by Makiko Niki and Miho Satake. It has also been adapted into an anime and a TV drama (starring Haruka Ayase), so some of you may have seen it. I believe it's a novel that should be passed down to future generations.

Windmill Festival

Eiichi Ikegami's "Windmill Festival" This was a book I read in paperback when I was a student, and it was incredibly fun. The image is of the e-book version. His debut work, "Bagarujima Nupanasu: My Island's Story," is also interesting and recommended, but I'm introducing this one this time. What is the Windmill Festival? I learned about it in this book, but it seems to be a festival celebrating longevity in Okinawa. It's a traditional event that grandly celebrates the age of 97 (by traditional counting), and this book is a fantasy-comedy centered around the Windmill Festival. It was so funny that I was laughing uncontrollably in class and someone asked, "Is it funny?" This novel vividly conveys the charm of Okinawa's unique culture, dialect, religious views, relaxed prefectural character, and views on love, without holding back.

Nice to meet you all

I'm new here, but I'd like to recommend a book! The Stranger / Albert Camus This is the first protagonist I've ever encountered who I couldn't relate to at all, and it was surprising. I can't help but respect Albert Camus for being able to depict the psychology of a person like Meursault so well. What's more, it was interesting how the story kept deviating. If you're going to dive into French literature, this is a must-read.

After School Club

A fairy tale light novel 'After School Club' by Manato Koda, a rare horror author for Dengeki Bunko. It's a heartwarming yet brutal horror where elementary school kids gather 'after school' to record strange occurrences. I also recommend the manga adaptation by Meiji, which really brings out the characters' charm. The cover posted here is from Volume 3 of the manga. My absolute favorite is Taro. It's genuinely interesting.

The Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter Agents Series

A Japanese-style fantasy series, "The Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter Agents," by Kana Akatsuki, the author of "Violet Evergarden." It's a story where a beautiful world of Japanese fantasy is mixed with a messy political drama. The characters' names are beautiful. The characters' mutual affection and actions are beautiful. The delicate depiction of the seasons is beautiful. Intertwined with this is the ugliness of human malice, like something eaten by insects. It's also being adapted into a comic and anime, so give it a try. And I really hope you'll experience this beautiful world through its writing.
