Kouda Gakuto Works, 50% Off on Various E-books

The novels by Gakuto Kouda, a fairytale horror light novel author I've been a fan of since my student days, are currently 50% off on various e-book sites, including the comic adaptations. They're quite affordable right now. Actually, the reason I created this forum was to passionately promote Gakuto Kouda's works. I can't promote the same work elsewhere multiple times, you see. And now, the time has finally come... Everyone, let's read them! Below are brief synopses and keywords for each novel. 【missing】 Debut work. There's also a new edition with detailed descriptions added for the Reiwa era. It was popular enough to get a comic adaptation twice, for both the old and new editions. It's a private high school. Sora-me Kyoichi, nicknamed 'Demon King,' and his friends like Kondo Takemi confront supernatural phenomena along with disappearances. Keywords: Disappearances, Folklore, Magic, Witchcraft, Spirit Mediumship, Urban Legends, Organization Facing World Collapse 【Grimm of the Fragment】 This is also a popular work with both an old and a new edition. Shirano Soi, who cherishes the ordinary above all else, is suddenly struck by an anomaly. There, he confronts the 'Bubble of God' with the gothic lolita beauty, Tokitsuki Yukino, who saved him. Keywords: Gothic Lolita, Grimm's Fairy Tales, Symbology That's all for today due to character limits. I'll post again tomorrow.

Self-Introduction

I'm joining today (?). My name is Shuketsu. I tend to read books that catch my eye based on the cover or title. I don't really pay attention to the genre, and for some reason, I often pick thick books. If I find any interesting books, I might have a chance to share them. I'm also interested in books you find interesting, so I might leave comments sometimes. I look forward to interacting with you all. 🙇

『Earth's Strongest Sisters: Candy』

Did you think, "What the heck is this?" Please, don't stop at the title! This is a work by Hiroshi Yamamoto, a renowned SF author. When his daughter demanded a bedtime story, he tried to simplify his own writings, only for her to say, "It's not interesting..." That's when he decided, "I'll definitely make you say it's interesting!" and wrote this. It's an SF story featuring two cute girls as the protagonists. It's got some wild premises! But because of that, their loneliness from their own lives and the questions of "Why?" are all over the place. It was also a story that, especially as an adult, made me suddenly realize things. Remember learning math in school? "When am I ever going to use this...?" Didn't you find it a pain? This work clearly provides an outrageous answer to "This is when you use it!" While the scale is grand... If you're someone who gets excited by over-the-top, Yatterman-esque stories! You should definitely check it out! The moment you understand the meaning of "Candy," you'll think, "Ah, I get it~"!

The Folklore of Internet Ghost Stories

Mocumentary horror has been gaining traction recently. This is a book I recommend reading for basic knowledge before watching or reading such works. In the past, scary stories were told from person to person within a very limited circle. With the rapid spread of the internet in the 2000s, both ghost stories and urban legends began to spread instantly over a wide area. Kisaragi Station, Hide-and-Seek Alone, Yashakihime, Kunekune, Inunaki Village... They're still 'new' but highly recognizable, aren't they? This book is a folkloristic study and compilation of these scary stories, which have gained such transmissibility. It covers not only Japanese internet ghost stories but also English ones... English-language creepypasta Like The Backrooms, Liminal Space, Slender Man, Jeff the Killer, etc. Wouldn't it be more fun to understand the origins of games? The preface and first chapter are available on the publisher's website. Definitely give it a try ☺️ Tracing the 'folklore' of internet ghost stories, which aren't found in school textbooks -- Ryūhei Hirota's "The Folklore of Internet Ghost Stories" Preface and Table of Contents [Now on Sale] Hayakawa Books & Magazines (β) https://share.google/kDTSwNQVOcnb6IFCr

The Lost World

First, let's talk about the author! ...That's right, it's "Conan Doyle," the creator of the "world's most famous detective"! Apparently, Doyle actually wanted to write adventure stories and sci-fi rather than mystery novels. Reading it, you can tell, "He must have had fun writing this." Doyle's masterpiece of sci-fi, often overshadowed by the world's most famous detective, is less known to many. "Dinosaurs survived in a hidden land!" ...Who wouldn't get excited about that! As a break from mystery novels, give it a try!

Metal Gear (Novelization) I Recommend Even Now

Written by Project Itoh. That alone is enough to guarantee it's good, but if you're a Metal Gear fan, you'll definitely love it. Even if you're not, you're sure to be moved by Project Itoh's writing. Let's enjoy the work of a genius!

Seishi Yokomizo's "The Bride of the Labyrinth"

The Kosuke Kindaichi series is a monument of Japanese mystery fiction. Among them, my favorite is "The Bride of the Labyrinth." I don't think it's very well-known. I can't go into detail, but the flow until you find out who the culprit is on the last page is truly beautiful. What's beautiful is the composition. I believe it's the composition that's beautiful, not the descriptions or the tricks. "The Bride of the Labyrinth" is the only novel I love and recommend not just for its story, but especially for its composition. Who is the culprit? Readers will vaguely, or rather, suspect early on, "It must be this person." However, it's not revealed until the very last page. Kosuke Kindaichi only appears for a very short time. The protagonist of "The Bride of the Labyrinth" is not the detective Kosuke Kindaichi. It remains one of my favorite novels to this day.

The Count of Monte Cristo

Yep, Dumas' masterpiece, need I say more! My favorite book since elementary school! It's super long, but there are condensed versions… and even children's book adaptations, so you can read it smoothly. Does this count as a picaresque novel (villain protagonist)? It's fundamentally a revenge story, after all. But… the Count is just so cool!!! I like the innocent sailor from the beginning, but who wouldn't love a dashing, mysterious noble overflowing with charm and dripping with sex appeal!? Also, personally, my favorite character is 'Edde'. If you like the cool guy x beautiful girl pairing, you should definitely check it out…! She's not just a pretty face, she's also an incredibly strong woman…!!!

No Way!? Spoilers Strictly Prohibited.

When I encounter young people (even around elementary school age!) who are just starting to get into books, especially mystery novels, I always recommend these three works. I tell them, 'In this age of information overload, experience the thrill of a first read before you stumble upon spoilers somewhere!' While Dame Christie has many masterpieces, these three are particularly shocking the first time you read them, making you think, 'Is that even allowed?!' They've been adapted into films many times, but... if you haven't experienced them yet, you definitely should! Hurry, before someone spoils them for you! (lol)
