[Manga] Blood Pagoda's Onmyoji

In an era where the lines between humans and yokai blur, a 'divine artifact' is stolen from the Emperor's treasury by yokai. Orders to retrieve it are issued to the Onmyoji of various capitals, and the disgraced Onmyoji, Fuzuki, also receives a decree. Fuzuki sets out to reclaim the artifact. However, upon finding it, it's absorbed by a half-yokai named Ranmaru. Ranmaru, now able to sense yokai absorbing the artifact, embarks on a journey with Fuzuki through various hardships to find the divine artifact. This work is still ongoing, with 8 volumes published so far. The historical setting might be a bit polarizing, but I think the story is genuinely exciting and well-constructed. The characters are charming, and the art style is beautiful. If you enjoy action and following character backstories, this is a must-read. Highly recommended for those who love action and character development.

[Review] Dead Mount Death Play Gaiden

Dead Mount Death Play Gaiden "The Superhuman Solitaire's Divine Art" is truly the title. Perhaps due to its popularity, it also got a side story. This story is set in the past, before the "Superhuman Solitaire" Sorimura Tenaga appeared as a criminal in the original work. Iwano me Tsubaki and Arase Kozaburo from the Third Section Compilation Department also appear, and they have a tough time chasing the Superhuman Solitaire. Among the bizarre criminals like Lemmings, the Superhuman Solitaire, and the fire-breathing bug, he's on the weaker side. He was caught in the main story, but he escaped. That's the Superhuman Solitaire for you. I don't like his face, he looks like a mustachioed old man, but I really like his personality. He's an unhateable character, and honestly, I find myself rooting for him even when he commits crimes. If you enjoyed the main story, you can enjoy this casually.

[Review] Nodame Cantabile

A must-read manga if you like classical music. Even if you don't like classical music, this manga will make you like it. This manga sparked the Chiaki-senpai syndrome and was so popular that it was adapted into an anime and a drama. It was even remade into a Korean drama called 'Tomorrow's Cantabile', but if you're going to watch that, you might as well just watch the original. The new edition includes a wedding scene between Nodame and Chiaki that wasn't in the old edition. Sorry if you were expecting a romance-filled wedding scene, but their wedding is also typically 'Nodame-esque'. Noda Megumi's name itself sounds hopeless, as 'Nodame' is a combination of the English word 'NO' and the Japanese word 'dame' (meaning 'no good' or 'useless'). In other words, she's a mess. But her incredible piano skills are undeniable. This manga depicts the journey of Nodame, who could have remained a piano prodigy, as she navigates college life, meets the wonderful Chiaki-senpai who is great at piano, violin, and even better at conducting, and grows to become the world's best pianist. Chiaki-senpai is always cool.

[Review] Shiki

A manga featuring Ono Fuyumi, the author of 'The Twelve Kingdoms,' as the story writer, and Fujisaki Ryu, the illustrator of 'Hoshin Engi,' as the artist. For reference, there's also an original novel by Ono Fuyumi, so if you enjoyed the manga, I recommend it. The story lines of the novel and the manga differ slightly (characters who should die live, and characters who should live die). The anime initially follows the manga's route but switches to the novel's route in the latter half, leading to slight differences in the ending. The male protagonist, Yuuki Natsuno, moves to the village of Sotoba due to his parents' circumstances. He dislikes rural life and aimed for a university in the capital, and the female protagonist, Shimizu Megumi, also dreamed of city life. Meanwhile, strange deaths begin to occur in the village, and Yuuki and Shimizu gradually uncover the truth. As expected from Ms. Ono Fuyumi's work, it's interesting and incredibly captivating. The boundary between who is good and who is evil disappears, and the conclusion even presents a twist where good and evil seem to be reversed.

Silver Spoon

This is [Silver Spoon], a coming-of-age school story set in a high school in Hokkaido, by Hiromu Arakawa, famous for 'Fullmetal Alchemist'. Serialized from 2011 to 2019, it concluded with a total of 15 volumes. Overwhelmed by his father's pressure and academic stress, the protagonist 'Yugo Hachiken' enrolls in 'Oezo Agricultural High School' in Hokkaido, a place he can escape to with its dormitory life. The main story follows his growth as a person and his journey to forge his own path as he encounters various events and experiences there. The author, who is actually from Hokkaido, vividly incorporates her experiences, realistically depicting dairy farming knowledge and experiences in an engaging way. It's a manga that those who enjoy non-stimulating healing and humor will welcome, but there are undoubtedly parts that could be considered boring, perhaps due to the limitations of the subject matter itself. In particular, many reviews point out that the latter half of the story lacks weight.

Inuyasha

A fantasy action series about Kagome, a high school girl who time-slips from modern times to the Sengoku period through a well, embarking on an adventure with the half-demon Inuyusha to find the shattered shards of the Shikon Jewel. It perfectly blends unique characters, a vast world, poignant romance, and conflicts with multi-dimensional villains. A masterpiece by Rumiko Takahashi, it offers a timeless adventure and a deep, lasting impression.

[Review] Black Butler

A manga famous for the line "Akumade shitsuji desukara" (悪魔で 執事ですから). "Akumade" can be interpreted in two ways. First, "Akuma" (demon) + "de shitsuji desukara" (because I'm a butler) -> "Because I'm a demon butler." Second, "Akumade" (purely/merely) + "shitsuji desukara" (because I'm a butler) -> "I'm merely a butler." Combining these, it becomes "I'm a demon, but I'm just a butler." This means Sebastian never lied. He is indeed a demon, and he is also a butler. Personally, after Ryohgo Narita's Baccano!, this is one of the works I desperately hope gets an ending. Ms. Toboso... other works are great, but... Black Butler... you love it, don't you...? It makes me so sad that Baccano! seems hopeless... It's a feast for the eyes with many handsome male characters, and most importantly, as the story progresses, the secrets about the Phantomhive family are revealed, leading to the shocking twist: "Ciel... you... weren't Ciel after all...!" Watching it might give you a severe case of chuunibyou, but it's only possible because it's Ciel, so let's all keep our inner dark flames (kuroi honoo no ryuu) dormant.

[Review] Spy x Family

Everyone has a part of themselves they can't show anyone. Not even to friends, lovers, or even family. We hide our true feelings and nature behind a well-packaged smile or bravado, and in doing so, the world continues in a state of disguised peace. Spy Loid Forger, assassin Yor Forger, and esper Anya Forger, hide their true identities from each other to achieve their respective goals, and live together as a temporary family in this comedy action manga. It's so popular that it's been adapted into an anime, and the original manga is also incredibly fun. Author Tatsuya Endo didn't originally want to create this kind of work, but due to its skyrocketing popularity, he had no choice but to continue it. There were rumors that he had disappeared for a while due to the discrepancy between this work and what he wanted to draw, but in reality, he was just taking a break due to poor health. The chairs on the cover are all designer brands, and items each character wants to hide are drawn alongside them. Anya is so cute, and Yor is so beautiful. Loid is perfect. I wish there was a bit more of a romance line.
