What is apparent temperature? Don't just look at the temperature..

Every morning when we check the weather forecast, we're used to only looking at the 'air temperature' (e.g., 20°C), but often when we go out, it feels much colder or hotter than expected. The temperature provided by meteorological agencies is the air temperature under standard conditions, but the cold or heat felt by the human body is actually influenced by various environmental factors. In the cold winter, if there's a strong wind blowing, it accelerates heat loss from the skin's surface. This is the so-called 'Wind Chill effect,' making a 10°C temperature feel like only 5°C. In the hot summer, high humidity hinders sweat evaporation, making it difficult for the body to cool down. This is the 'Heat Index,' making a 32°C day feel like it's soaring to 38°C or even higher. Therefore, learning to read the 'apparent temperature' is key to dressing appropriately. When checking the forecast in winter, if it's windy, wear an extra windproof jacket. In summer, if the humidity is high, choose breathable clothing and take good sun protection measures. Next time before you go out, take an extra look at the apparent temperature. It will help you choose your outfit more accurately for the day and avoid catching a cold or suffering from heatstroke. Apparent Temperature = Temperature + Wind Speed + Humidity
