The World's Only Animal That Poops 'Square Poop'
Australia's adorable Wombat is currently the only known animal in the world capable of producing cube-shaped (square) feces. Why square? Wombats have poor eyesight and rely on scent and their droppings to mark their territory and attract mates. They pile their poop on elevated spots like rocks or logs. If the poop were round, it would easily roll away, but square droppings stay put. How is this possible? It's not because their butts are square, but due to the wombat's extremely long and unevenly elastic intestines. As the intestines approach the end, they undergo a special contraction and compression process that dries out the feces and shapes it with edges, allowing them to produce nearly a hundred perfect poop cubes a day.
