Forgot to take your blood pressure medication? Pharmacist reveals 'half-time rule': Take it ASAP before this time, never double

Follow these golden handling principles in daily life: 1. Judging when to take a missed dose: Use the 'halfway point between two doses' as a reference. • If the halfway point hasn't been passed: If you realize you've missed a dose and the time until your next scheduled dose is less than half of the original dosing interval, you should 'take the missed dose immediately'. For example: You were supposed to take your medication at 8 AM every day, and the next dose is at 8 AM the following day (a 24-hour interval, so the halfway point is 12 hours). If you remember before 8 PM (e.g., at noon or in the afternoon), take the missed dose right away. • If the halfway point has been passed: If you realize you've missed your dose and the time has already passed the halfway point of the dosing interval, 'do not take the missed dose'. Simply wait until your next originally scheduled time and take the usual dose. For example: If you remember your 8 AM dose at 9 PM, which is more than 12 hours later, do not take the missed dose. 2. Crucial禁忌 (taboo): Absolutely do not take a double dose No matter how long you've forgotten, do not take double the amount of medication (double dose) when your next scheduled dose is due. Blindly doubling your blood pressure medication can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, leading to dizziness, falls, and in severe cases, shock or stroke. Reminder: Be sure to double-check your medication instructions on your physical label (pharmacy bag or prescription label). If there are special long-acting or short-acting mechanisms, you should still follow the professional instructions of your attending physician or pharmacist.

Protect Your Brain and Heart! The Complete Guide to Daily Blood Pressure Measurement: Do These 3 Things Before Measuring to Avoi

In daily life, accurately measuring blood pressure is a crucial key to preventing dementia and stroke. 1. Standard for Daily Blood Pressure Measurement According to the guidelines of the Taiwan Society of Cardiology, the '722' principle is commonly used in clinical practice to evaluate home blood pressure readings: • Normal Blood Pressure: Should be maintained below 120/80 mmHg. • Hypertension Threshold: If home measurements continuously average over 130/80 mmHg for 7 consecutive days, it reaches the diagnostic standard for hypertension. 2. Precautions Before, During, and After Measurement • Before Measurement (Preparation): Within 30 minutes before measurement, refrain from drinking coffee, tea, alcohol, smoking, and engaging in strenuous exercise. Before measuring blood pressure, please empty your bladder and rest quietly on a comfortable chair for 5 minutes. • During Measurement (Standard Posture): Sit on a chair with a backrest, with your feet flat on the floor. Do not cross your legs or rest one ankle on the other knee. Wrap the cuff around your upper arm, ensuring it is at the same level as your heart. Remain still and do not talk during the measurement. • After Measurement (Recording): It is recommended to measure once in the morning and once in the evening (within 1 hour of waking up, within 1 hour before bedtime). Measure twice each time (1 minute apart) and record the average of the two readings in detail, as an important basis for the doctor's diagnosis when you visit the hospital.

Turn Exercise into a Gathering Party! The 'Dual Brain & Muscle Care Guide' for Middle-Aged and Seniors, Live a Healthy and Elega

For middle-aged and seniors, moderate to high-intensity exercise can effectively improve cardiovascular function, maintain muscle strength, and prevent diseases like dementia and stroke. Combining it with social interaction can further maintain brain vitality and reduce anxiety. Here are recommended exercise types and social combination suggestions: 1. Moderate to High-Intensity Exercise Types • Nordic Walking: Walking with poles, this exercise is more intense than regular walking, engages 80% of the body's muscles, and reduces knee strain. • Aqua Walking and Aerobics: Utilize water resistance and buoyancy for large-stride fast walking or aerobic jumping. It achieves moderate to high-intensity fat burning and cardiovascular training without harming joints. • Low-Impact Circuit Resistance Training: Use resistance bands, light dumbbells, or community fitness equipment for intermittent muscle training involving multiple joints, effectively preventing sarcopenia. 2. Perfect Social Combination Planning • Walking Buddy Club: Form a walking group with friends or neighbors, or join a local hiking group on nature trails. Interacting during exercise stimulates brain nerves simultaneously. • Participate in Community Group Exercise Classes: Such as Tai Chi, social dance, or senior core aerobics classes. Group classes are highly enjoyable and can build long-term camaraderie and support systems. • Healthy Gatherings Post-Exercise: Arrange to enjoy a healthy, low-salt, high-potassium, high-protein breakfast with your companions after walking or exercising. Turn your workout into an anticipated social party.

Control Your Blood Pressure to Prevent 3 Major Diseases at Once! Research: Adjusting 'This' Can Keep Dementia, Stroke, and Depre

High blood pressure is the most significant common cause of dementia, stroke, and late-life depression. According to research from Massachusetts General Hospital, approximately 60% of strokes, 40% of dementia cases, and 35% of late-life depression are closely related to modifiable lifestyle factors. Since these three brain diseases are highly interconnected, early adjustments to lifestyle habits can simultaneously reduce the risk of developing all three. Here are three key health focus areas: 1. Blood Pressure Control: Reduce salt intake, maintain an ideal body weight, exercise regularly, take medication on time, and increase intake of potassium-rich natural foods (such as bananas, kiwis, spinach, etc. Patients with kidney disease should follow their doctor's advice). 2. Combine Exercise with Social Activities: Moderate to high-intensity exercise can lower the risk of stroke and dementia. Combining exercise with social interaction, such as walking with friends or joining community exercise classes, can simultaneously promote cardiovascular health and reduce feelings of sadness. 3. Establish Healthy Habits Early: Regular exercise, a balanced diet, good sleep, stable social connections, not smoking, and avoiding excessive alcohol consumption, starting from middle age or earlier, can delay the onset of diseases. The earlier you start, the more you can postpone disease occurrence. 💢 Seek medical attention promptly if you experience any abnormal symptoms.

The Helmeted Hornbill: A Forest Guardian Carrying a Deadly Treasure, on the Brink of Extinction

The Helmeted Hornbill (English: Helmeted Hornbill, Scientific Name: Rhinoplax vigil) is a giant, rare bird species inhabiting the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, primarily found in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo [23]. They are the most uniquely shaped members of the hornbill family, reaching lengths of 1.1 to 1.2 meters, and possess a pair of long, slender tail feathers, half a meter in length, with black and white markings in the center. Their most famous feature is the large, solid 'casque' on their head. Unlike the hollow, lightweight casques of other hornbills, the Helmeted Hornbill's casque is a solid bony structure, accounting for one-tenth of its body weight. Their beak and the front part of the casque are yellow, while the rear part and the bare skin of the neck are a vibrant scarlet red. In the rainforest, males use this hard casque for aerial combat to compete for territory. However, this solid casque has brought them to the brink of extinction. Its texture is as fine as ivory, known in the black market as 'red crane top' or 'bird head,' and it is often smuggled in large quantities to be carved into expensive handicrafts. Due to severe illegal poaching and habitat loss caused by deforestation, the wild population of Helmeted Hornbills has drastically declined. They are currently listed as Critically Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), standing just one step away from extinction in the wild.

The Rainforest Spirit with a Giant Blue Beak: Madagascar's Endemic 'Helmet Vanga'

The Helmet Vanga (scientific name: Euryceros prevostii), also commonly translated as 'Helmet Shrike' in Chinese, is a rare bird endemic to Madagascar. It mainly inhabits the mid-layers of the tropical rainforests in the northeastern part of the island and belongs to an ancient and highly differentiated group of birds. The most striking feature of the Helmet Vanga is its enormous, thick, and brightly shining blue 'helmet-shaped' curved beak, which appears exceptionally exaggerated compared to its body size. The birds measure approximately 28 to 31 cm in length, with striking color contrasts: the head, neck, and belly are a deep blue-black, while the back and wings are covered in beautiful reddish-brown (coffee-colored) feathers. In terms of habits, Helmet Vangas are calm by nature, often perching motionless on branches for extended periods, waiting for opportunities to catch prey such as large insects, lizards, frogs, or snails. They practice monogamy and build cup-shaped nests together during the breeding season. Due to habitat fragmentation caused by human agricultural expansion and deforestation, the wild population of Helmet Vangas is continuously declining. It is currently listed as Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), urgently requiring conservation and attention from the international community.

Long-Term Care Subsidy Application Documents Cheat Sheet: Institutional Contract and Payment Receipt are Essential

When applying for the 2026 Long-Term Care Facility Residency Subsidy, in addition to the applicant's (resident or family member) ID and bankbook copy, family members must obtain and be issued the following core documents from the facility where the resident is admitted: 1. Facility Residency Contract: • A copy of the complete contract must be requested from the facility. • This is primarily used to confirm that the resident was indeed admitted to the facility within the subsidy year, and that the room type and facility type specified in the contract meet the subsidy scope. 2. Facility Payment Receipt (or Invoice): • A original proof of payment or a copy of the receipt for the subsidy year must be requested from the facility (the actual number of copies required depends on the announcements by each city/county government). • The receipt must clearly state the resident's name, period of stay, and the items and amounts charged. The new system uses 'monthly recognition,' where staying for 15 days or more in a month (1/2 of the month's days) qualifies for recognition, and the receipt is an important voucher for reviewing the number of days. 3. Facility Qualification Certificate (depending on requirements of each city/county): • Some cities/counties may require a copy of the facility's legally established business license or evaluation certificate during the review process. When requesting the contract, you can also confirm with the facility's administrative staff if this needs to be attached. ⚠️ Important Reminder: After preparing all documents, please submit your application to the Social Affairs Bureau or Health Bureau of the city/county government where the facility was located for the 'most recent admission within the subsidy year'.

Decoding 2026 Long-Term Care Subsidy Eligibility: Level 4+ Long-Term Care, Moderate+ Disabilities Qualify for Direct Bonus Witho

Starting in 2026, the new system for long-term care accommodation subsidies will completely remove the income means test. As long as you meet one of the following two conditions – 'moderate to severe functional impairment' or 'disability' – you can apply: 1. Conditions for individuals with moderate to severe functional impairment: • Assessment Standard: Must undergo professional assessment by the local government's 'Long-Term Care Management Center' (LTCC). • Level Requirement: Long-Term Care Need Level (CMS) must be Level 4 (inclusive) or above. 2. Conditions for individuals with disabilities: • Proof Requirement: Must possess a government-issued disability certificate. • Degree of Disability: Must be moderately, severely, or extremely severely disabled. 💡 Special Rule for Disability Bonus: No Need to Forfeit Original Subsidy If an elder is already receiving the 'Subsidy for Residential Care Costs for Persons with Disabilities' and meets the above moderate or severe disability conditions, the new system adopts a 'direct bonus' approach. Families do not need to give up their original disability subsidy; they can simultaneously apply for the additional monthly accommodation subsidy of NT$5,000, which the government will stack on top, easing the burden on families with disabled members.
